Hang in There as part of the Sugar House Art Walk
Hang in There is a participatory art project that presents an opportunity for people to engage and temporarily curate for themselves the artwork that should be found in medical clinics’ exam rooms.
The idea is to replace, even if just conceptually, the ubiquitous Utah landscapes in exam rooms with artwork that reflects the humanity of the spaces and the stories of individuals spending time there.
Thanks to the participants who shared their stories with Framework Arts:
Becca sat in a particular spot in the parking garage watching pigeons and waiting for the text that told her to come in for her radiation appointment.
Susanne handled a year with mysterious symptoms and limited mobility by practicing visible mending.
Alex focused on the changes to the tree outside the infusion clinic’s window from bare branches to the first buds of spring.
Daryl envisions an epic battle between the Hulk and Godzilla when he waits for his doctor.
Megan stares at her shoes wondering whether the nurse has forgotten that she is waiting in the room.
Melody remembers how cold she was waiting to hear about her biopsy results and wants to fill the rooms with beautiful blankets.
Barbara passed and fortified her time with her rosary and filled clinician’s rooms with Gregorian chants.
Framework Arts thanks the Bar Method for allowing the use of its space for Hang in There during the Sugar House Art Walk.
